Visions of the Sacred began in 2001 to help feed the poor and needy of Detroit through an online auction offering the finest works of many of the world's leading photojournalists. The auction was an immediate success and has become an annual fall event, attracting growing numbers of photographers and financial support. Money raised through the auction has helped feed 22,000 people, including 5,000 children.
Funds also support clothing and furniture for the poor, the Jefferson House for recovering drug addicts and alcoholics, and other programs to bring care and spiritual nourishment to our brothers and sisters in need. Ninety percent of the money raised through Visions of the Sacred goes directly to these programs.
All photographs offered in the auction are limited editions. Participating photographers provide two identical prints of their work - one for the auction, the other for year-round display at the Capuchin Soup Kitchen. Doing this surrounds our guests with images of beauty and Visions of the Sacred.
